Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets - Week 4
My fourth and final week of senior projects was by far the lightest. Most of the work had already been accomplished by now which meant that all there was left was to wait on the edits from the videographer. Once he got the final product back to me I reviewed it with Gerald and we loved it. However, we had some input of what we thought needed changing to perfect it so we met with the videographer to discuss the final tweaks. Once he made them everything was finished!
I am so grateful for how enjoyable and successful this senior project has been for me. In terms of my goals from week one, they have definitely been achieved. I had fun throughout the process even though it was hard work at times, but I think the fact that it was challenging was part of the reason it was fun. Although this quote isn’t from the right sport I think it applies perfectly to this situation: “Having fun is doing the hard things well.” Tim Whittle, my basketball coach at Catlin has told us this many times and I now have a deeper understanding of what it means.
My second goal was to learn, and each week I did. I was kind of thrown into the deep end and had to guide myself down the right path. That is not to say I did not have many people who assisted me throughout the process, but at the end of the day it was my responsibility to lead the project and I had to be the one to figure out how to do that. This was an opportunity for me to learn in a very different way compared to the classroom. I had much more control and agency than I've really ever had when working on a project.
Lastly, my third goal was to give back. To give back to the community around me, and to individuals who have provided me with so much. When Gerald saw the final product he was so excited and he kept telling me how much Friends of Baseball is going to love it and how great he thought it was. Seeing Gerald’s reaction to the final product confirmed that I had achieved my goal of giving back. I had both created something that will help children in my community and created something that supports Gerald.
(I have been struggling with technical difficulties that have prevented me from uploading videos. I will update the blog with the videos or a place to watch them when possible. So in the meantime here are some photos.)
Fantastic, Kell! As Gerald said, it has been a joy to see you take the lead with this and run! I'm so impressed with your organization, your diving in to new situations and learning on the fly, and your mission-centered work to give back to this community. Congratulations on a great senior project!
