The Only Thing Worse Than a Mets Game is a Mets Doubleheader - Week 2 (5/28)

At the start of week two, I met with Gerald Bolden on the Catlin baseball field on Saturday and we spent a few hours planning and rehearsing each of the lessons. They started out a bit rough, but once we got into it they started flowing better. By the end of the session, I was surprised by how natural it all felt. Sure there were hiccups here and there but for a run-through with no practice, I couldn’t have asked for more. We are both excited to see it all come together during filming this upcoming weekend.

We recorded each of the videos and we have both reviewed them. Below are still images of the practice videos, but I expect that the actual videos will look more professional when done by the videographer.

One of the things that I noticed when doing these practice videos is that the speaker has more impact when they are looking into the camera. There will be times when we can’t but whenever the option is there I think it is far more impactful and will create more of a connection with the viewers.

I have confirmed everyone’s availability for the videotaping. The group includes me, Gerald Bolden with Friends of Baseball, the videographer, and Won (pronounced Juan) also with Friends of Baseball. I met Won a couple of years ago when working out with Gerald. Won moved to the US from Korea so we have a few things in common including baseball and Taekwondo. Won will help by being a third person who will take a secondary role, for example, when I ground a ball and then throw it, I’ll throw it to Won at first base rather than just throwing it to the open space. This will give viewers a real understanding of the purpose behind throwing the ball.

The weather forecast indicates we should have a sunny couple of days leading up to our shoot on the 30th so I am hoping we have good conditions. 90% of the drills we are working on will be in the outfield space of the baseball field so we won’t be doing to much wear and tear on the infield.

After such a successful week I can’t wait to get filming!

  1. Kell, this sounds amazing! Great job planning how to accomplish the goal and create the end product, then practicing, learning from that. I can't wait to see the final videos. Wendy

  2. These are so neat to see, Kell, especially for someone (me) who knows nothing about the sport and is genuinely learning from your videos. Your points about figuring out how to make the lessons maximally impactful for the viewers make lots of sense, and that adds complexity for you to figure out before taping. I'm excited to watch your next set!
